rian johnson just defended a plot point of star wars: the last jedi in a hilarious way

you can hound rian johnson day in and day and complain about star wars: the last jedi, but it doesn't seem like you're going to break him. the director has been making it his goal to address each and every issue fans have had with his film, and his latest might just be his best yet.

johnson spent today on twitter specifically addressing the scene in which luke uses "force projection," to transport himself to the field of battle. those who dislike the scene have remarked luke's appearance is far outside of the realm of possibility for what a jedi can do. i could explain how johnson proved that's not true, but it's a lot better if you just follow the pictures by clicking the tweet thread (yes there's more than two pictures) below:

yep, turns out force projection is canon. of course, this is a silly argument to make as if it wasn't, someone would've stepped in and told johnson he couldn't do it well before the film made its way to theaters. now if he can just explain how people can survive the freezing cold of space but die of sadness...

did you have a problem with luke's scene? thanks to comicbook for bringing this to our attention.

den of thieves is the best action movie of 2018, so far - one minute movie review

nep3614851.jpg

christian gudegast is the writer behind some pretty good action films like london has fallen and a man apart. now in his directorial debut he brings us den of thieves, the action thriller that pits two crews on both sides of the law against each other in modern day los angeles. gerard butler and curtis "50 cent" jackson co-star in this action-packed heist film, but is it just another mediocre movie?

the original halloween 6 script featured virtual reality and a homeless michael myers

halloween: the curse of michael myers is not a horror film a lot of people like, but it always could've been much worse. it also could've been better, but that ultimately depends on how you feel about the alternate script for halloween 6 written by phil rosenberg, which was only uncovered recently when a fan purchased it on ebay. according to comicbook, the script contains a homeless michael myers, a virtual reality ouija board, and somehow, more disappointment than the original halloween 6.

in "halloween:666" michael myers is homeless and living on the streets, unmasked. that's not too much of a problem, considering no one knows what he actually looks like, and the town of haddonfield, illinois is still recovering from the havoc the killer has brought upon their town in the past two films.

here's where it gets ridiculous. remember paul rudd's character? he has a virtual reality ouija board that allows him to explore the past of the myers family and learn the secrets of michael's origin. i'm not sure why a normal ouija board wouldn't suffice for this task, but that's a question you can ask about 90% of vr software, so i'll allow it.

oh, by the way, this film wouldn't follow jaimie lloyd, but instead reporter dana childress who discovers she's also a long-lost sister of michael myers! what a coincidence right?!

that's just the outline, so if you're looking to dive into this script full force, and maybe recreate a scene or two for the world to enjoy, check out the full script right here. it's a bad script, sure, but is it really worse than what we ended up getting?

ian mcshane offers new details on hellboy's relationship with broom in new film

the new theatrical incarnation of hellboy, starring david harbour is going to be a lot different from what fans have become accustomed to with guillermo del toro and ron perlman's initial films. the new one is set to have a hard-r rating and will be jam-packed full of witches and demons. but we're now learning that the changes don't stop there.

actor ian mcshane was cast in the reboot as hellboy's adopted father, professor broom. mcshane recently spoke with fandom and revealed that broom and hellboy will have a much different relationship than in the previous films, and a lot of that comes from where the movie chooses to begin their story.

“you don’t start with the birth of hellboy… but the relationship between [hellboy and broom] is quite crusty. does he trust his father? [hellboy asks], ‘why didn’t you kill me? i’m a monster.’ it’s a little bit of a psychological battle against hellboy.
"there’s one important moment in [the film] when [hellboy] sort of thinks he’s fighting his own people, the outsiders. so, he’s being used by the insiders, which is me, if you like.”

even though the relationship between the two might go in a different direction, mcshane says he will take a similar approach to the role as the late john hurt did in the previous films.

“i’m sort of playing this part as a slight homage to john [hurt]. i mean, i’m not playing it like him, obviously… but the relationship [with hellboy] is very much the same.”

the neil marshall directed film will be released on january 11th, 2019.

denis villeneuve says dune adaptation will be "star wars for adults"

denis-villeneuve-says-dune-adaptation-will-be-star-wars-for-adults-social.jpg

if you weren't already excited for denis villeneuve's take on dune, you should be.  the director recently spoke to fandom about his adaptation, and said he wants to make it the star wars film he never saw:

most of the main ideas of star wars are coming from dune so it’s going to be a challenge to [tackle] this.the ambition is to do the star wars movie i never saw. in a way, it’s star wars for adults. we’ll see.

with that kind of ambition, villeneuve can hopefully top the effort of david lynch's adaptation, which was a critical and commercial failure. despite that, the film still has its fans today, probably because that scene of patrick stewart playing the sitar is so rad:

as far as how he villeneuve will look to tackle the franchise, the director shared his vision is to start with the first book, and then remain with the franchise for a couple films if it's successful:

“i could be involved with one or two movies if it happens. that’s the thing. today you’re asking me this question about a project that doesn’t exist yet. i’m used to talking about projects when they’re shot, finished, i’m in the editing room, i’m about to release the movie. then you talk about something real. right now, i might in three weeks or two months learn that nobody agrees on a screenplay, it will be with someone else. it can happen. and when the movie will be made? it’s all theory right now."

i think villeneuve is the right man for the job to bring dune back to life, although i'm not sure how you can make an "adult star wars," beyond adding boobs. what are your thoughts on villeneuve's goal, and do you think he can pull it off? is the world ready for more dune?

steven spielberg might be directing another indiana jones film and a west side story reboot next

steven spielberg just finished directing the post and ready player one, but if you thought that meant he was taking a break, you were dead wrong. deadline reports the director is already eyeballing his next two features and that a new indiana jones film and a reboot of west side story are both distinct possibilities. there are other options on the table, of course, but obviously, these are the most exciting.

well one of them anyway. right now current sources seem to indicate the indiana jones film is holding the top spot, and that whatever second film he chooses would either precede or follow that. spielberg's camp, of course, denies any of this, but it wouldn't be hollywood without loose lips to get the fans excited.

if spielberg is getting back into the indiana jones game, disney is undoubtedly high fiving each other as we speak for that lucasfilm acquisition. there were rumors at one point that spielberg wanted to relaunch the franchise with chris pratt and harrison ford attached, but i'll be honest that sounds a little more rumory than this rumor we're currently discussing. honestly, i wouldn't be mad if shia labeouf returned the the franchise now that he's older and took another shot at things!

the west side story rumor, while far less exciting for a geek audience, does give the rumor a bit more weight as its a film spielberg expressed interest in before. we'll keep an eye out for more updates, but while we do, are you ready for another indiana jones film? what would it take to get you excited for that?

a director of the handmaid's tale could be directing a future star wars film

offredsaber.jpg

a director of the handmaid's tale, reed morano, could be at the helm of a future star wars film. thr reports the director recently met with kathleen kennedy, and while she couldn't say what the discussion was about, she did have nothing but positive things to say about the producer:

“[kathleen kennedy is] amazing. we’re talking about adventure movies, and i’m not even remembering that she produced goonies. any movie that i put my finger on that i loved when i was growing up was a movie that she produced. anyway, it was a great meeting. obviously, i can’t say anything about what else we were talking about...i guess [kathleen kennedy] was watching [the handmaid’s tale] with her daughter and then called people and was like, ‘who’s this reed person?’ she probably thought i was a guy because of my name.

episode ix is already off limits, but it's been well established disney is looking to pump out a healthy amount of star wars films throughout the next decade and beyond, so it's possible kennedy was gauging morano's interest in helming a future film for the franchise.

morano has directed three episodes of the handmaid's tale, as well as an episode of showtime's billions and amc's halt and catch fire. that's too wide of a range to speculate what kennedy might have in mind for morano and star wars, but considering kennedy noticed her while watching the handmaid's tale...could it have to do with a story like that? anybody got any ideas?

the sword in the stone live-action remake now has a director

the sword in the stone live-action remake just got a director, and it's looking like this film may have a much darker tone than the original animated disney film. thr reports director juan carlos fresnadillo has gotten the job, and will take on the script written by game of thrones writer bryan cogman.

if the name of the director isn't ringing any bells, perhaps you'll remember him from his film 28 weeks later. now, we're not expecting disney to let fresnadillo go quite as dark as he's capable of with this film, but the casting certainly indicates they're not looking to do a live-action shot for shot recreation of the original film. beyond the zombie film, fresnadillo has also directed episodes of falling water and salvation, which definitely show disney has a different vision for this film.

how do you feel about a darker sword in the stone? i'll be honest i have no strong feelings towards the original so i have no issue with disney trying something new. what's your take?

rian johnson once again explained rey's parents in an effort to put it to rest

if you're someone who is still convinced rian johnson intentionally misled people with who rey's parents were in star wars: the last jedi, you gotta let the past die. johnson has once again stated that the call was his to make regarding rey's parents, and that he ultimately chose rey's parents to be drug-addicts to show that the force is not a tool exclusive to a handful of individuals within a jedi bloodline.

check out johnson's latest comments regarding that in the video below, and continue on below:

i get there were people who wanted rey to be a kenobi or something like that, but i have to say i like johnson's reasoning here if only because it ultimately ensures the health of the star wars franchise. whether you like it or not, disney is going to continue these films up until the day you draw your last breath, and the only way to ensure that continues to happen is to establish that the story of the force expands well beyond the skywalker family.

whether you agree with it or not, i think ultimately this move is going to be remembered as a pivotal step in the future of the star wars franchise be it good or bad. do you agree, or do you think j.j. abrams is just going to retcon rey's parentage in episode ix?

red-band trailer for the wild-looking series reboot of heathers features first look at shannen doherty

red-band-trailer-for-the-wild-looking-series-reboot-of-heathers-features-first-look-at-shannen-doherty1

paramount has released the first full red-band trailer for their upcoming series reboot of the classic 1988 film heathers. this is said to be a "pitch-black comedy anthology set in the present day." it's definitely not the version of the film that you remember. this is a complete reimagining but it deals with the same issues, and it looks pretty wild.

the original film focused on veronica (winona ryder) and her rebel boyfriend j.d. (christian slater), dealing with the social order in high school. the update features a new set of popular-yet-evil heathers. only this time around the outcasts have become the high school royalty. this definitely makes for an interesting twist.

heather mcnamara (originally played by lisanne falk) will be portrayed by jasmine mathews; heather duke (shannen doherty in the film) is a male who identifies as gender-queer whose real name is heath (brendan scannell); and heather chandler (originally kim walker) has a body like martha dumptruck and will be played by melanie field. newcomers james scully and grace victoria cox star as j.d. and veronica, respectively.

original heathers star shannen doherty guest-stars in the pilot episode and you get your first look at her in this trailer that was released.

the report is said the show "perfectly blends drama, love, rivalry, and comedy into a modern-day masterpiece." watch the trailer for yourself below and tell us if this is a series that you'll be tuning in to watch.

heathers premieres wednesday, march 7th at 10 pm on paramount network.

nick frost and simon pegg are developing a paranormal investigation comedy series

nick-frost-and-simon-pegg-are-developing-a-horror-comedy-series-social.jpg

nick frost and simon pegg are headed back to television. the two big-time actors, who first got their start on the channel 4 comedy series spaced, are now developing a horror-comedy series about a team of paranormal investigators according to variety.

the series, which is titled truth seekers, will have each half-hour episode center on a paranormal incident and the three paranormal investigators looking into it. the series will have clear "monster of the week," potential apparently, and will ramp up in intensity as the series develops. here's what simon pegg said about it:

"it’ll start as a very parochial idea, a very small business venture for these people, but it will expand as the series goes on to be something far more global. it’s a language everyone understands, the mystery of the unknown. ‘shaun of the dead’ was a very parochial story set in north london and somehow it managed to get this global reach because everyone understands the language of zombie movies."

pegg and frost didn't indicate whether they'll be a part of the three-man team, but they are producing the series for television. regardless of whether or not they'll be starring, i'm excited to see where this series heads! are you excited?

black panther is the mcu’s james bond according to director ryan coogler

black panther will have a james bond flavor to the film and i'm excited.
