marvel studios plans on releasing an official marvel cinematic universe timeline

with all of the films that marvel has made and will continue to make, it's not a surprise that the timeline has ended up being a little confusing. one of the biggest timeline confusions came with spider-man: homecoming, which is set eight years after the events of the avengers. that would set the events of homecoming in the year 2020 as opposed to 2017.

well, any question you've ever had about the mcu's timeline will be cleared up as kevin feige says that they are going to release an office timeline to show us how it all fits together. during an interview with screen rant, he explains:

"all of that debate has encouraged us. we are going to be publishing an official, and i’m not sure when, or in what format, an official timeline. it’ll probably be apart of ah, i don’t know, apart of an in print that you can fold out and look at. but suffice to say, only in limited cases do we ever actually say what the actual years are because we never want to be tied down to a particular year and i think people assume that whenever the movie is released is when is when the movie is taking place, and that is not the case."

i think kevin feige makes a fair point. i've never really been bugged by the timeline of the mcu films, i figure marvel knows what they are doing when it comes to when all of the events in their films take place. some fans do care and they want all the details and those details are coming.

it will be interesting to see what this timeline ends up looking like, but i imagine it won't be released until after they close out the current mcu with avengers 4
