comment on ‘the orville’ review: seth macfarlane’s ‘star trek’ rip-off is creati

really? because from what i saw, no one seems to have attacked the writer personally, but instead called out a bias that they viewed, i can't see where you seem to have gotten that notion.

‘the orville’ review: seth macfarlane’s ‘star trek’ rip-off is creatively, moral

doesn't matter how much macfarlane steals or spends — this show still feels cheap.

comment on ‘the orville’ review: seth macfarlane’s ‘star trek’ rip-off is creati

the reviewer hates seth but i am guessing she loves star trek - discovery of depressed lesbians.

comment on ‘the orville’ review: seth macfarlane’s ‘star trek’ rip-off is creati

it wasn't too bad...even clever in places. seth macfarlane reminds me a lot of spike lee in that they are both good writers, but they both seem desperately to want to be stars themselves. and everything they've ever written or produced would have been better had they not cast themselves in it.

this review should be titled: how to piss off a social justice warrior.

gotta love the haters... just lose a few pounds sweetie.

comment on ‘the orville’ review: seth macfarlane’s ‘star trek’ rip-off is creati

wow! cbs must really be rolling out the $$$ to all you troll reviewers! i'll be loving this romp, quite sure!

comment on ‘the orville’ review: seth macfarlane’s ‘star trek’ rip-off is creati

well i love it and it more star trek than star trek discovery.may be cut the jokes and add a little bit more weight to to the orvill. the characters could do with some more depth but that could come in future episodes.

comment on ‘the orville’ review: seth macfarlane’s ‘star trek’ rip-off is creati

it's too much like star trek? yes, so what? it's probably more star trek than discovery, so i'm really happy that finally there is a star trek show on tv. and one that can be funny at times, something actual star trek almost never was. if only this team could have done the new official star trek show for cbs, instead of the hacks that are actually doing star trek and seem to have absolutely no respect nor love for star trek.

comment on ‘the orville’ review: seth macfarlane’s ‘star trek’ rip-off is creati

head's up. trek didn't invent "u.s.s." it's actually a thing used by the us navy...

comment on ‘the orville’ review: seth macfarlane’s ‘star trek’ rip-off is creati

this review is an example of what someone who missed the whole spirit of star trek (all series) and further missed the point of macfarlane's pilot would say when trying to be deep. it's just a fun trip that uses the trek style venue instead of some overused setting like so much of tv today. relax! i enjoyed it, and will continue to do so until it gets cancelled for some pos reality show.

comment on ‘the orville’ review: seth macfarlane’s ‘star trek’ rip-off is creati

funny how liz is suppose to be so patient the orrville beings that she has seen at least three episodes of it yet people were dogging out star trek discovery without seeing one damn episode.

comment on ‘the orville’ review: seth macfarlane’s ‘star trek’ rip-off is creati

too much scatological humor: poop, urine, body odor; all really in bad taste and low class

comment on ‘the orville’ review: seth macfarlane’s ‘star trek’ rip-off is creati

not great, not bad hope it finds its rhythm before cancellation. it's a fun light and breezy homage to star trek, especially tng, which absolutely sucked the first season and a half, just enjoy

comment on ‘the orville’ review: seth macfarlane’s ‘star trek’ rip-off is creati

mcfarlane ought to be investigated by the u.n civil rights commission for inflicting this on the american public. just joking, but it really, really sucked.

when shows like the orville make it past studio executives that should have had the good sense to kill it before filming began, i envy the millions of people exterminated by the nazis that never had to see it on television.

comment on ‘the orville’ review: seth macfarlane’s ‘star trek’ rip-off is creati

all the more reason to watch it. it's star-trek, but with seth macfarlane's cheeky equal-opportunity offender comedic parody. i still like watching the family guy "story of star wars" trilogy. if it were a show that promotes morals and ethics, it would be very out of character. it would be dull. but it isn't, so it isn't. i apologize for receiving such entertainment with my eyes and laughing at it.

liz loves the word "clueless," possibly because it's so apropos for her reviews.

comment on ‘the orville’ review: seth macfarlane’s ‘star trek’ rip-off is creati

okay, have ya heard of stargate sg1, or watched any previous startrek shows. because i don't think you have, compared to an average season 1 episode of tng,ds9,voy, or ent; this was a really really good start.

comment on ‘the orville’ review: seth macfarlane’s ‘star trek’ rip-off is creati

liz loves the word "clueless," likely because it's so apropos for her reviews: predictable, perfectionistic, pc nonsense.

i found it impossible to suppress my disbelief that anyone would give mcfarlane's character command of a starship. he makes the chris pine kirk look like picard.

comment on ‘the orville’ review: seth macfarlane’s ‘star trek’ rip-off is creati

i watched it for 5 minutes til the first commercial. even watching it that far, it's an obvious rip off of trek. i don't like comedy very much, even less so with science fiction. the scene with the guy with a beer in the shuttle was enough to make me turn off the tv. not even remotely funny (to me at least). as a huge fan of star trek, this show is just an insult. i hope they get sued and then cancelled, in either order.

comment on ‘the orville’ review: seth macfarlane’s ‘star trek’ rip-off is creati

your job must suck, having to watch shows you don't like. thing is, as a reviewer your job should focus on what audience you imagine a show will entertain, and go from there. but with this so-called review you play the harsh critic on a mission, as if we are you, but we are not.

comment on ‘the orville’ review: seth macfarlane’s ‘star trek’ rip-off is creati

even though i have not seen the show and you have, you are clearly wrong and must have a bias against seth mcfarlane, when in fact you should have a bias towards seth mcfarlane, like me and my fan boy bros garble snort snort

i honestly don't see the issue with a direct homage to a series when modern star trek, from the films to the newest series, are not at all attempting to capture what made the original series great. so what's the issue exactly with reviving a series from 40 years ago when what carries the star trek name no longer resembles it? especially with the blessing and involvement of so many trek series people. you think frakes is going to get a shot at directing a star trek movie again in the abramsverse? im struggling to see your point.

i've been in the navy for 15 years, and i'm trying to figure out which writer for this show was in the navy as well. most of the comments, situations, and jokes were straight odd a navy ship on deployment. i couldn't stop laughing. i'm very excited about this tv show.

comment on ‘the orville’ review: seth macfarlane’s ‘star trek’ rip-off is creati

wow. such unbridled passion. such love. such a complete misunderstanding of the material. once i saw how wrong you were with basic facts about this show and the raw hatred of it's creator i knew i'd be watching this show for no other reason than to piss off people like this reviewer. don't take it so hard. its a tv show. not an attack on sjw values.

comment on ‘the orville’ review: seth macfarlane’s ‘star trek’ rip-off is creati

would rate it 5/10, similar to tng:farpoint or stv:caretaker. some good points, some bad -- can go up or down from here. the in-universe and character backstories haven't really been fleshed out yet, so too early to tell. steals a bit early on from st or gq, i can live with that. given the lcd reality/zombie/vampire millennial crap out there now, will give it a chance with an open mind...

the failure of "the orville" is further proof that while macfarlane can do sci-fi and science-related content pretty well (as demonstrated by the "cosmos" revival), comedy is definitely not his thing. assuming he's not just being offensive for the sake of being offensive - and that's a pretty big assumption - his attempts at delivering messages are often so inept that they fall flat and wind up the exact opposite of his intentions. what makes all this especially sad is that it could've been a nice homage to an iconic sci-fi franchise, especially considering the rotten state of said franchise at the moment.

hunter: sci-fi comedy includes, off the top of my head, (for tv): rick & morty, other space, 3rd rock from the sun, eureka, hitchhikers guide to the galaxy, dirk gently, and for film men in black, both bill & ted movies, the world's end... but also, while certain shows need a little bit of time to warm up, that won't make the show's design and universe less of a ripoff, which is the main problem. the fact that a network ordered any given series does not make that series good or worth watching, otherwise every single series would be good and worth watching. it means the network thought orville was potentially profitable. to be fair to macfarlane, american dad and cosmos are both significantly better than animated dick jokes, but that doesn't change the orville.

so...go back and watch the 1 seasons of tng, ds9, or voy and tell me how awesome they were - and those were built on an existing franchise. sure, this might look like really expensive cosplay, and some of the jokes fell flat, or were dumb, but i'll at least watch it until it gets cancelled to see if it has anything worthwhile in it. and if it doesn't, i'm sure some online writer will add it to their "top 10 epic fail" list of tv shows. at least it isn't another zombie show, or yet one more "reality" show being promoted as entertainment.
